I decided to create a new series for the blog – instead of the typical monthly favorites, I will do a Top 5 random category each month.
Well, in July I became unemployed. I was a tutor at a study center and with the summer break also came my break. So I (unfortunately) had the free time to explore new entertainment content! I’ve mainly watched tv shows – believe me, I could make a top 5 new series of the month because I binged entire seasons.
But, for the premiere of this segment, I present to you my Top 5 Discoveries of the month!
La Casa de Papel | Money Heist (Netflix)
The original title is “La Casa de Papel” which means “The Paper House”. It is a Spanish heist television series created by Álex Pina for Antena 3 (spanish television channel). On the international release done by Netflix, it became known as “Money Heist”. Since I live in Portugal, I only discover it had a name other than ” La Casa de Papel” when I was doing the research info for this post. It is a Spanish heist television series created by Álex Pina for Antena 3 (Spanish television channel).
Why Paper House? “A mysterious man, who goes by the name of El Profesor (“The Professor”), is planning the biggest heist in history. In order to carry out the ambitious plan, he recruits a team of eight people with certain abilities who have nothing to lose. The goal is to enter the Royal Mint of Spain and print €2.4 billion. In order to do this, they need 11 days of seclusion, during which they will have to deal with elite police forces and 67 hostages.”
Let me start by saying that I don’t like action movies ou tv shows. I find it boring, empty of deep reflection on the main topic and just easy to write, I guess. Well, this is none of that. The way it is written, with the brilliant characterization made by the actors, the eclectic music choice – which connects with me immediately by familiarity, even if I never heard the particular song before, because its European – everything falls in place. I enjoyed the plot and the plan for the heist was really well thought out. Alex Pina did an amazing job on this and I can’t wait for the third season.
“God is a woman” by Ariana Grande
Don’t have much to say about this one, it’s not my favorite song from Ariana but I find it kind of addicted. I found myself with the rap pre-chorus part or the final choir part repeating in my head a lot of times during the day. The music video on the other way has a lot of potential and a lot of details to watch and analyze.
If you love Broadway or/and Shrek, please watch this as soon as you can! The performances are amazing – Daniel Breaker’s Donkey was by far the funniest character. Brian d’Arcy James really impressed me on a positive note – I didn’t know he could sing and I’m used to seeing dramatic characters from him, not comedic ones. I was also impressed by Sutton Foster’s singing! The whole show was high quality and fun!
“A Resistência” | “Resistance” by Julián Fuks
Julián Fuks is a Brazilian author and literary critic. This piece was his latest work, published in 2015. Resistance is a novel about family and society in Latin America.
It is a biographic story – it is based on Fuks’ own parents’ history, how they met and how they started a family on the 1970’s resistance side of the military dictatorship in Buenos Aires. The way Fuks writes about his demons – what consequences our family history has on us and in our future generations, even when we haven’t played any part in the events that occurred. It is also a deep book about brotherhood, how sometimes we ended getting far and far away from family members until a point where you still loved them, but don’t know who they are anymore. It is a great read, please find this book and devour it!
A real book review of this will come out on the blog in August, so don’t forget to follow my blog so you don’t miss out! (how good of a blog marketer am I? Just kidding!)
Hello party people! This is Zoe Hong, a fashion designer, and teacher. I came across her channel at the beginning of the month and she has been my company while I’m at the gym cycling or doing steps. Her channel is fashion centered but you can find a variety of topics in there – drawing tips, fashion business advice, portfolio critiques and much more.
If you’re interested in starting a fashion business or just want to get to know the industry a little bit more, just check her out! She gives you curated info about the topics and also a good time because she’s hilarious. My favorite videos are the drawing and the portfolio critique ones because I feel they help me improve my art and knowledge of it.
And that’s it for today guys!
