On this week’s episode of American Crime Story we get to know a lot about Andrew! On the Summer (1997), he arrives at Miami for a new start. He meets Ronnie (Max Greenfield, who played Schmidt on New Girl) and starts a cicle of drugs and sex. That comes along with a beautiful sequence of Andrew seducing married man, wrapping the man’s head with ducktape, dancing while he sufocated, stabbing him in the face for air release and ends with Andy eating with some lobster roomservice.
Darren Criss is doing an impressive job with this character. He’s one of my favorite actors of his age, due to his role on Glee and he manage to come up with some brilliant bodu language for each role. His dance moves were totally different here from his dancing Blaine on Glee, and even his singing voice was different – as you can see in the driving scene.
Andrew and Ronnie have a pretty good relation – but he had that as well with the couple we met on the first episode but this is just Andy’s sociopath skills working the move – as we end up seeing, when they say goodbye.
We also travel to 1994, when Gianni was supposably diagnosed with HIV. The family denies the illness (you can read about it in here) but the book that inspired the show afirms that Gianni Versace was HIV positive on the day of his death. We see his desire to make the best of his life as he intended – to make Donatella and Antonio a family, to arguing with his sister about the weight of the models (he thought they were too skinny), the company and so on.
We understand now why Donatella is so distant from her brother’s love – she blames Antonio for the HIV asserting “he wasn’t enought for you” (because he has sex with other men) and that he never gave Gianni the family he wanted and deserved.
And that’s it for this week’s episode!
I’m becoming intrigued about the story the more it goes! And what about you?
